The grain of sand in the oyster

Inspiration

My TV script professor would say this all the time. She told us that the grain of sand was an idea and the oyster was us. To produce a pearl, the oyster must have a grain of sand bothering it until it’s covered in nacre. After time and effort that grain becomes a pearl.

An idea, especially the good ones, makes us uneasy. They don’t leave us alone. They keep us awake at night. We are impelled to realize them. No matter how we want to express it or what we dedicate ourselves to, we must surrender to the idea.

We work, re-work and polish it until it is perfect. It costs us sweat, tears and even blood (metaphorically and literally for some) but we managed to take our idea and turn it into a pearl. The satisfaction is indescribable. Being able to see fulfilled what until recently was only a manifestation in our mind.

The ideas come from everywhere. Be it from a building that captivated us, a place we’ve visited by chance or even talking to an old friend, we must be receptive to ideas that emerge. Work hard on your ideas, whatever it is, and you will see your pearl shine.
